lilix FTTx Reflector

The lilix FTTx Reflector 1625/1650 nm was specifically developed to allow for Central Office based optical line monitoring of access networks. To this end the reflector, which selectively  reflects in the wavelength range 1620/1645 nm and above, preferably is installed at each line end (e.g. in the subscriber’s home or at any other demarcation point). Later on it is possible to monitor the optical lines at any time by optical time domain reflectometry (OTDR) from Central Office with the help of the clearly distinguishable end reflexes induced by the reflectors. Thus it even in PON infrastructures fibre breaks can be localized in the whole access network by a Central Office based OTDR analysis.

A great advantage of OTDR monitoring in the wavelength range above 1620 nm is the possibility to monitor the optical line between central office and customer under full operating conditions without disturbing data traffic.

Including reflectors into access networks at an early stage lays the foundation for a future automation of network maintenance and service. This is the key to a better network and service quality as well as to substantial OPEX savings.

The lilix FTTx Reflector is available in two different configurations: either packaged in an invar tube (two sizes are available) or integrated in the connector of a patch cable.
